Sony announced a firmware (v.1.05) upgrade for the Sony UP-DR80Thermal Printer:
Ver.1.05 is modified from Ver.1.04 as follows...
It avoids the following situation. If the supplied AC power was shut off irregularly like unplugging the power cable at a subtle timing in the printer recycling process, the printer might not be recovered after re-powering the printer.

The new Sony UP-DR80 Compact Professional Portrait and Photo Package Printer.
The UP-DR80 boasts superb print quality, with 3 software selectable finishes--ProMatte™,
glossy and luster—and a multi-cut operation for 6 print sizes (8x10, 8x10.2, 8x12, 4x8, 5x7 and 6x8).
The light-weight model weighs just 25 lbs and is just 12-1/2 inches wide.
FEATURES:
• Superior print quality with ProMatte, glossy and luster finishes
• Fast 65 second 8x10 prints
• Integrated paper tray
• Light weight and compact
• Automatic paper and ink ribbon feeding
• All borderless prints
• Flat prints – built in de-curl technology
• On demand cooling functionality
The UP-DR80’s user-friendly front operation makes it easy to
replace paper and ink ribbons and its integrated paper tray can
stack 50 prints (a full pack of 8x10 media). Prints come out of
the UP-DR80 flat and ready to go, thanks to its de-curl
technology. And, its on-demand cooling function saves energy
and minimizes dust.
The UP-DR80 also features a coreless paper to reduce solid
waste and the ink ribbon drops right into the integrated media
bay, so there is no cartridge to throw away.
For easy ordering and stocking, one media pack is available, the 2UPC-R810.
It will produce the following sizes and yields:
• 8x10 – 50 prints
• 8x10.2 – 50 prints
• 8x12 – 42 prints
• 4x8 – 126 prints
• 5x8 – 100 prints
• 6x8 – 84 prints
Retail customers can grow their Sony solution as their business grows. The UP-DR80 printer can be
added to the UPCR20L SnapLab printer allowing the retailer the ability to offer higher-margin 4x8
Greeting Cards and 8x10 enlargements. This "slave printer" capability is available at launch. The ability
to add text to the 4x8 greeting cards is planned to be available Fall 2009.
